Board Spotlight: Welcoming Laura McGrath
Bringing professional expertise, personal experience, and a deep passion for supporting families of children with medical complexity.
Better2gether is excited to welcome Laura McGrath to our Board of Directors! Laura brings more than 25 years of legal and operational leadership experience to the team, along with a personal connection to Better2gether’s mission.
Laura currently serves as CEO of Dominion Fund Services, where she assists corporate clients with in-house legal work. Throughout her career, she has acted as both COO and General Counsel for a financial firm and serves on the boards of private investment funds. Outside of work, Laura enjoys time with her husband, a Captain at Delta Airlines, and their two teenage sons — one of whom has significant medical complexity.
Her introduction to Better2gether came through board member Joe Roberts, who provides services and support to families in the VCU Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. “Joe has supported my family during my son’s various hospital stays,” Laura shared. “I am excited to participate on a board with Joe, who has so much experience working on the front lines with medically complex children and their families.”
Laura’s decision to join the Better2gether Board stems from both her personal experience and her deep belief in the organization’s mission. “Having a child with life-long medical complexity, I know how isolating and overwhelming it can be,” she said. “Finding resources and support on your own can be incredibly difficult. Better2gether meets families where they are and provides the right help in an easy, cohesive, and accessible way. The services they offer are invaluable and can dramatically reduce the stress and suffering that so many families face.”
With a long career spent managing complex systems and creating effective solutions, Laura brings a unique and valuable perspective to the board. “One of my best skills is navigating complexity and structuring practical, efficient solutions,” she explained. “I hope to translate that skill to my work with Better2gether, helping the organization continue to grow and reach even more families.”
Laura is especially passionate about helping Better2gether expand its visibility and reach. “I’d love to find new ways to connect with families of medically complex children who might not yet know about this incredible organization,” she said. “I’m also eager to help raise awareness within the community, leverage key relationships, and support ideas like creating a library of short videos that address important topics for families.”
Laura’s professional insight, lived experience, and genuine compassion make her a wonderful addition to the Better2gether Board. We are thrilled to welcome her and look forward to the many ways she’ll help strengthen and expand our mission to support families of children with rare and chronic illnesses.
