Board Member Spotlight: Meet Anson Koshy, MD, MBE
When Dr. Anson Koshy relocated from Houston to Richmond a year and a half ago to lead the Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics at Children's Hospital of Richmond, he knew he wanted to find a meaningful way to give back to his new community. After meeting Better2gether Founder Stephanie Becker and learning more about the organization's mission, he knew he had found the perfect fit.
"I've always believed that if you want to support children with complex health needs, you have to start by supporting their parents," Dr. Koshy shares. "Better2gether tackles that mission head-on, and I'm honored to be part of it."
Throughout his career, Dr. Koshy has seen firsthand the challenges families face while navigating complex healthcare and support systems. His previous nonprofit experience includes serving on boards that supported families of children with dyslexia and helped pediatric residents better understand the day-to-day realities of caring for children with complex medical needs through in-home family visits.
In addition to his medical expertise, Dr. Koshy brings a creative perspective to the board. A visual artist who specializes in narrative portraiture, he believes creativity has the power to celebrate strengths and tell meaningful stories. During his time with a Houston nonprofit, he helped launch an art contest for children and adults with dyslexia, creating a platform to recognize their talents and shift the focus from challenges to abilities.
"I hope to bring a creative angle to Better2gether's mission and shake things up in the best possible way," he says.
Although he's relatively new to Richmond, Dr. Koshy says the city has already made a lasting impression.
"I have felt incredibly welcomed by the Richmond community in ways I have never quite experienced before," he says. "Richmonders are a special group, and the sense of community they pride themselves on is truly palpable. I can't wait to give back through this organization and work alongside this talented and dynamic group of volunteers, board members, and nonprofit leaders in service to our neighbors and children with complex health needs."
We're thrilled to welcome Dr. Koshy to the Better2gether Board of Directors and look forward to the passion, expertise, and creativity he'll bring as we continue supporting families navigating life with medical complexity.
