Board Member Spotlight: Kay Springfield

Meet Kay Springfield, one of the newest members of the Better2gether board and someone who believes deeply in the power of compassion, connection, and community. With a career rooted in service and a passion for helping people navigate life’s transitions, Kay brings a wealth of experience—and a big heart—to her work supporting Better2gether families.

A Farmville, Virginia native, Kay has called Midlothian home for more than 25 years. Her professional journey has included business administration, recruiting, paralegal work, nonprofit management, real estate, and travel planning. Today, she serves her community as a Realtor®, Senior Real Estate Specialist, travel agent, and mental wellness advocate.

Across each chapter of her career, Kay has been passionate about helping people navigate life’s transitions with compassion, patience, and practical support. That commitment to service, combined with her belief in trauma-informed care, makes her a natural fit for Better2gether.

Kay first connected with Better2gether after sitting down with Executive Director Stephanie at a Chesterfield Chamber luncheon. She was immediately impressed by the organization’s mission and Stephanie’s passion for supporting families.

“As a mental wellness advocate, I believe strongly in trauma-informed care,” Kay shared. “When we help families navigate difficult experiences with compassion, education, and practical support, we can lessen the effects of trauma for the entire family.”

While Kay does not have a personal connection to medical complexity, she understands how gaps in healthcare and support can affect an entire family. As a mom to two adult children and a Mimi to six grandchildren, she brings a deep appreciation for the importance of caring for the whole family—not just the individual receiving medical care.

One Better2gether initiative that particularly resonates with Kay is the Complex Care Clinic. She appreciates its focus on supporting the entire family and reducing the stress that can come with caring for a child with complex medical needs.

“I believe that when a child has complex medical needs, the entire family needs care and support,” she said.

Kay also brings valuable experience in nonprofit management, event planning, and community outreach to her role on the board. She believes successful fundraising and development begin with relationships—helping people understand an organization’s mission, see its impact, and find meaningful ways to get involved.

“I enjoy making those connections, sharing the organization’s story, and encouraging community members and businesses to participate and support.”

Looking ahead, Kay hopes to see Better2gether reach even more families, expand its resources, and become a familiar place for families to turn when they need support.

Her advice to the Better2gether community is simple but powerful: “Sometimes just knowing you’re not facing a difficult situation alone can make all the difference.”

And if there’s one thing Kay wants the Better2gether community to know about her, it’s this: “When I care about something, I’m all in—and I’m ready to listen, learn, and lend a hand wherever I can.”

We’re grateful to have Kay’s heart for service, community connections, and commitment to family well-being helping guide Better2gether.

Get involved: Kay encourages donors and supporters to give, volunteer, and share Better2gether’s mission so more families and community partners can discover the support and resources available.
