Volunteer Spotlight: Scott Elliott
From the very beginning, Scott felt a strong connection to Better2gether’s mission. As a youth sports coach and a parent of two teenagers, he’s spent years around kids—and says nothing sits heavier with him than seeing children who don’t get the chance to simply be kids. That feeling is what first drew him in.
“The cause itself is so worthy,” Scott shared. “It immediately resonated with me.”
For Scott, Better2gether’s mission is simple but powerful. “It provides love, support, and outreach to let others know they’re not alone and don’t have to go through life without help,” he said. It’s that sense of community and care that he believes makes the organization so important.
Like many volunteers, Scott says what’s surprised him most is the level of need. “It’s very eye-opening,” he explained. “And the way Better2gether focuses not just on the child, but the entire family—it’s very special. This organization is here for the whole family.”
One moment in particular has stayed with him. While volunteering at a sibling bowling event, Scott expected a fun day of games and smiles—but left with something much deeper. “I got to volunteer at a siblings’ day event, and I knew I’d have fun with the kids and hopefully make them smile,” he said. “But as everyone was leaving, one of the siblings, Declan, came up and gave me a hug and said, ‘thank you.’ It was completely unexpected. Hard not to feel great after that.”
That experience reinforced something Scott already believed—small moments matter. “I’m more aware now of how important it is to volunteer,” he said. “One person really can make a difference in someone’s life.”
Through his time with Better2gether, Scott has also gained a deeper understanding of the families served. “They are people too,” he said. “It’s hard—sometimes a real struggle just to get through a day. They all deserve to be thought about, loved, and given the best life possible for their situation.”
To anyone considering getting involved, Scott doesn’t hesitate: “Jump in. This is the best cause around. It’s incredibly rewarding to volunteer for an organization that puts kids and people first.”
Outside of volunteering, Scott finds joy in the same place he gives it—his family and the kids he coaches. “I like to make others happy,” he said simply. “Especially my family and the kids I get to coach and work with.”
