Katie Zacherle’s Better2gether Journey

Katie Zacherle first discovered Better2gether through a professional networking group focused on supporting local nonprofits. Drawn to the organization’s mission and inspired by the stories of co-founders Liz and Stephanie, Katie felt an immediate connection. “Their stories were so real, so personal,” she shared. “It was eye-opening to realize how many families face these complex medical challenges—and how some receive support while others navigate it completely alone.”

That realization sparked Katie’s commitment to Better2gether’s mission to close that gap. What began as admiration and support from the outside became deeply personal just a few years later when her niece was born with medical complexities. “Because of Better2gether, I had a framework to understand how to support my family—even if I couldn’t always be there day-to-day. When you feel helpless, it’s powerful to plug into a community that shares your drive to make a difference.”

Katie has volunteered at events ranging from the Halloween Hustle to the annual Golf Classic—where she’s a fan favorite at the Golf prize wheel. Her experiences go beyond logistics. “One moment that sticks with me is a conversation I had with a mom at the Hustle. She told me, ‘My family doesn’t get it. My friends don’t get it. But at these events, I don’t feel alone.’ That’s why this work matters. These families need a village, especially when life becomes overwhelming.”

Volunteering with Better2gether has transformed how Katie sees her own role in the community. “I used to think if I couldn’t give a lot financially, my support didn’t count. But I’ve learned that showing up, advocating, volunteering—those are deeply meaningful, too.”

She’s particularly excited about Better2gether’s efforts to expand support for dads. “Moms are incredible, but sometimes dads don’t have the same outlets. They might not even realize they need help until they’re overwhelmed. I think it’s powerful that Better2gether is creating space for them, too.”

And there’s more on the horizon. Katie is especially looking forward to the Family Movie Night in September. “I love how Better2gether offers just as many little, personalized events for families as it does large-scale fundraisers. There’s truly something for everybody.”

Katie describes volunteering with Better2gether as one of the most rewarding experiences of her life. “If you want to do something and feel the impact immediately, this is the place. Every event, every moment—it’s designed with care, joy, and community at its core.”

We are incredibly grateful for Katie’s dedication, advocacy, and heart. Her involvement reminds us that meaningful impact comes in many forms—and that our community is stronger because of people like her. Thank you, Katie Zacherle, Senior Mortgage Banker at Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group, for all the ways you show up for Better2gether families.
